Newbie help!

I've just started reading the very first book and getting excited about what's going to happen.
I've read the rules, completed my character sheet and read the introduction and now it's time to choose my first quest. And this is where I'm already confused.
It says I can choose which quest to do first, so I plumped for Best In Show (22) but the introduction said I was making my way to Tithebury Cross and the beginning of this quest seems to suggest I'm now walking away from it. Does that mean I've missed going to the town? Can I go back? Is there a correct order to the quests?
