The Legion marches...
Well, it’s only 2 days to go until the launch of DestinyQuest: The Legion of Shadow, so to raise your geek excitement to unprecedented levels (well, I can try...), I thought I’d show you a sneak peek of the books! I’ve literally only just received them and, I'll admit, there was a little bit of trepidation mixed in with the excitement as I hastily tore away the packaging to reveal the books.
I’m pleased to say that the books look fantastic. The Gollancz team have worked wonders on polishing and freshening up the original, and in doing so, giving it a whole new lease of life. Most of all, I’m just delighted to know that all the material that I have written has made it into the book. This is very much ‘the ultimate’ edition, with the story told how I wanted it to be told, with all the extra quests and bonuses included.
For the geeks like me out there, here is a size comparison of the new editions against the original version (hardback on the bottom, paperback on top). As you can see, we’ve pushed the size stakes even further. I was considering popping a Fighting Fantasy book on top as well for amusement value ;-)
The expanded colour section is also really nicely produced on glossy, top quality paper. I also like the fact that it is now in the centre of the book rather than the front, so the maps are a lot easier to flick to between quests.
Now, there is a bit of bad news (isn’t there always…). The hardback version is on schedule to be released on the original date of 17 May (2 days time), but due to some damage to copies of the paperback (a problem that we believe occured at the printers), that version will be delayed. I know that will be enormously frustrating news for those of you who have pre-ordered the PB, but sadly it is something out of our control – better to have the books checked and those that are damaged reprinted, than having damaged books going out to shops and you guys.
EDIT: Good news - just heard from my editor that the paperback has been reprinted and packaged in super quick time (go go printers!), so it looks like the paperback will be going out to shops just a couple of days behind schedule. I'd imagine Monday/Tuesday next week would be a safe bet for shops and online retailers to have it in stock. So great news!
For those of you who have pre-ordered signed hardback copies from Goldsboro, I’m hoping to be signing those next Wednesday.
Phew. So yes, it’s been quite a journey getting to this point, but as always, a big thank you to all the fans who have helped support DQ. This new edition of the book is just as much your achievement as it is anyone's. Hope you enjoy it!
More news soon!
